SEDIBENG.- Former Radio’s finest Quincy Kekana has died after a long illness.
Sedibeng Ster learned about the passing of Kekana through his former radio station, Metro FM on Sunday morning. This sad news was broken by Wilson ‘B’ Nkosi on his popular show ‘Sounds and Stuff Like That’ when he dedicated his weekly “poetry motion” to this fallen legend.
Kekana was known as,’ the only Q’ of the radio.
He touched many people’s lives, with his uniqueness and charm as both Metro and Kaya FM DJ. Born and bred in the Vaal, Kekana grow up in the Evaton, and he was one of the people who put the Vaal on the map in the entertainment industry.
This former VUT FM Manager groomed many radio personalities including Motseki Mabuya who is now with Lesedi FM. Kekana was also appointed by former Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Mayor, Dikeledi Tsotetsi, to work in the municipality’s communications department. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Mabuya said that Kekana will go down in history as one the best radio DJs and Managers who groomed many young people in radio.
“Radio has lost one of the great managers who played an important role in our radio careers. I wouldn’t be here I’m if it wasn’t for Mr Q and I will forever be grateful for what he did for me. He lived radio and he was very professional demanding the best from everyone when he was Station Manager at VUT FM. I was very fortunate to work under him,” he told Sedibeng Ster.
702 FM presenter Nonn Botha who also happens to come from Vaal also paid tribute to Kekana on her Soul Music Show on Sunday afternoon. She said Kekana was something extraordinary to happen in the radio industry.
