Friends and colleagues roll sleeves for homeless people

"Just imagine if we can do this in our communities, we can touch many souls."

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Friends and colleagues came together to put a smile on the faces of those that are desperate for help when they distributed soap for street kids and homeless people next to Midas parking in Vanderbijlpark on Sunday.

It was a great morning to start the day for the street kids and homeless people when they were served hot soup, bread, and oranges. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Nonhlanhla Mamba said that her colleagues approached her to do this initiative for those who are less fortunate in the community. She said this was motivated by the fact that for a few days, it was cold and they felt it was proper to do something for the street kids and homeless people.

“Look, we decided to do this for ourselves and approach some of our close friends in the community because we didn’t want to approach organizations but do it for ourselves. When my colleague called me, I didn’t hesitate to come on board. You don’t have to open an NGO to do something like this in the community, as an individual you can still do this.”

“Just imagine if we can do this in our communities, we can touch many souls. Look at how many people we managed to feed here today. All we need is for people to pledge just small things like potatoes, bread, and soap among other things. This is beyond Mandela Day because we are also planning to have a Christmas Party for the less fortunate people in our community,” said Mamba.

Local cyclists under the leadership of Nkosinathi Nolusi and Sedibeng Ster journalist, Zacharia Nale, were among those who joined hands to put a smile on the street kid’s and homeless people’s faces. Mamba told Sedibeng Ster that they are looking forward to more projects and that anyone is welcome to come on board to assist where they can.
