Try Me Again FC in pre-season mood

"Unfortunately, my team doesn’t participate in these tournaments because I believe some of them prioritise money over football."

MEYERTON.- Try Me Again FC is one of the few Safa Sedibeng SAB League football teams that have already started their preparations for the 2023/2024 season.

This Meyerton-based team began their preparations by participating in pre-season games over the weekend. During the previous season, Try Me Again FC finished in 7th position in the Safa Sedibeng SAB League Stream A standings. The club was in the same stream as Real Hearts FC, which recently represented Sedibeng at the Inter Promotional Playoffs.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, the club’s chairman, Ntsane Sibeko, stated his intention to start early in order to prepare the team for the upcoming season. He mentioned that there are a few players he is interested in signing and is using these pre-season games to assess their abilities.

Sibeko expressed his desire for a young squad that can compete against the best teams in the league for the upcoming season. Although Try Me Again FC previously represented Sedibeng in the Inter Playoffs, they failed to secure promotion to the ABC Motsepe League. However, Sibeko mentioned the difficulty in arranging friendly matches, as most teams are currently involved in ‘kasi’ tournaments.

He explained: “We want to start preparing the team for next season by playing as many games as we can. At the moment, we are playing pre-season games against lower division teams because most of the SAB League teams are busy with these kasi tournaments. Unfortunately, my team doesn’t participate in these tournaments because I believe some of them prioritise money over football.

“We played our first pre-season games over the weekend to assess new players, with the hope of signing them if they impress me. I also want us to play a few pre-season games against Super League teams because there are many good teams in that league. For instance, over the weekend, we played against one of the Super League teams, and they gave us a run for our money.”

Sibeko expressed his admiration for the Super League, emphasising their ability to maintain possession and their overall speed. He acknowledged that his team struggled with their pace, particularly during counter-attacks.

“I have great respect for the Super League because they play with intensity, especially in terms of ball control. It was evident that we had difficulties coping with their speed and pace, especially on the counter-attacks,” said Sibeko.
