Spring-Summer weekend’s activities at Diniso Kasi Arts

Music from across the African continent will be played every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to unite the members of the community.

VEREENIGING.-  The Diniso Kasi Arts is aiming to bring locals the Spring-Summer Weekend Arts Activities at its home, the Diniso Kasi Arts Complex based in Bedworthpark, Vereeniging.

The weekend arts activities are going to be from Fridays until Sundays and will start from September 1 until the end of December this year. The programme is a link between the 2022 1st Annual Sobukwe Birthday-Black Power Festival and the forthcoming 2nd Sobukwe Birthday-Black Power Festival 2023 which will be on the 5th – 16 December 2023 at Diniso Arts Complex, Hector Street in Bedworthpark.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Iga-Makhulu Diniso, Diniso Kasi Arts’ Director said that Fridays will be for night poetry-comedy and Pizza, Saturdays for evening stage plays while Sundays will be for afternoon music and meal shows.

Diniso said that the activities within the program are meant to give artists who believe in live performances more than social media shows. He added that live shows are suitable for artists to perfect their craft while at the same time earning money, positive critique, and exposure from the members of the audience which could be the talent searchers and promoters.

Saturdays will also be open for an exhibition of handmade goods, home-cooked foods, and homebrewed drinks, going along with jam sessions for musicians under the Ketane Kulture Movement that was initiated in the 1980s by Gamakhulu Diniso an actor and fine artist and with Mafiki ‘Fixzo’ Marokoane of the hit song, ‘I Can Feel It’, with ‘The Hurricanes Music Band’ of Sharpeville of the 1970s.

To celebrate Heritage Month from 1 to 30 September music across the African continent will be played every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to unite the members of the community, people from other countries are invited to showcase their music, art, dance, and food.

Diniso further said that the arts activities will be presented at different indoor venues and open-air spaces within the Diniso Arts Complex which seats fifty audience members and has stages for solos, duets, and trio performers.

“Our @ART-Port Kofi Bar hosts twenty guests and this is a platform where poetry and comedy shows will be held while our @Lemon Trees Space will be for storytelling with a capacity to sit twenty people at a time. The artists who will be showcasing at these venues will be offered an opportunity to stage their full and professionally directed show to the paying audience for a season schedule,” Disino added.

The program is also meant as a development in welcoming the Vaal River Mega City that is currently under construction. Artists, crafters, and entrepreneurs are encouraged to work together in order to create job opportunities for themselves and employment for others in order to eradicate poverty and minimize joblessness in the Vaal.
