SEBOKENG.- Sedibeng is set to host Provincial Youth Elite Boxing Tournament scheduled to take place at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14, Sebokeng from Friday to Sunday.
This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport, by Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Sports Development Officer, Thanduxolo Madikizela. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Madikizela said that the tournament will start on Friday (18 August) and run until 27 August.
He said the tournament will be held based on a point system with boxers who score more points being crowned the champions at the end of the tournament on 27 August at the same venue. This means the tournament will run for two weeks with boxers exchanging punches for the championship. For years Sedibeng is known as a mega of boxing.
Madikizela made a special plea to schools to encourage the learners to come and support this provincial tournament. Sedibeng Boxing Association is the hosting region for this Provincial Youth Elite Boxing Tournament.
“We appeal to the community and schools around Sebokeng to come in numbers to support this tournament. This is a big tournament because it will see the Gauteng boxers coming together to fight among themselves. We all know that Sedibeng is well respected when it comes to boxing and Bongani Mahlangu continues to hoist our flag high. He continues to make us proud and this has served as motivation to the young boxers,” he concluded.
