SEBOKENG.- Sedibeng hosted a successful Provincial Youth Elite Boxing Tournament at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14.
This two-week tournament came to an end on Sunday with the winners crowned.
The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Sports Development Officer Thanduxolo Madikizela hailed the tournament as a great success. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Madikizela said the tournament was a huge success with boxers exchanging punches for the title.
He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that he was proud of the job well done by the Sedibeng Boxing Association for hosting such a tournament. The tournament saw boxers from Gauteng Province compete against each other for the past two weekends. Madikizela said the standard was high with boxers showcasing their God-giving talent for the past two weekends. This tournament started on 18 August and came to an end on Sunday with the finals.
“We want to thank everyone for their support and I must say we had a great tournament and thanks for their support. I saw great talent and I have no doubt that most of those boxers’ future looks great.
“I can tell you now, most of them are going to make a career in boxing and the only thing that they need is support from their own communities. Look, our biggest challenge as a society is our failure to see potential in these young athletes.
