‘Stop using the middle man’: EFF

"Using a middle man on simple and basic things that can be done internally by the municipality further drains the little resources the municipality has."

VANDERBIJLPARK. – The Economic Freedom Fighters in Sedibeng have called for urgency in insourcing at the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).

This comes after the municipality allegedly spent R800 000 to pay a company to buy advertising space on its behalf. EFF Sedibeng Chairperson, Isaac Khithika said that the crisis at the municipality needs superior logic to be applied and that the municipality should not be spending about R800 000 as it is alleged.

Khithika added that this is uncalled for as there is a department of communication that can organise that simple activity for the speaker to announce her IDPs or the Mayor to inform the community of his upcoming programs.

“The emphasis is that the municipality should not use the middle man to buy toilet paper because prices are bound to be inflated.”

The EFF in Sedibeng reiterated its call for urgent insourcing in Emfuleni and said that huge resources are given unnecessarily to the middleman.

“It is widely known that Emfuleni has totally collapsed under the ANC-led administration. This collapse has been happening systematically for a period of about 29 years since 1994 when the ANC-led administration took power. It is also widely known that the Municipality’s bank account is always attached every second day by either Rand Water, Eskom, or other service providers due to the failure of the municipality to meet its commitment,” Khithika reiterated.

“This will make it difficult for the municipality to provide service delivery where it is needed the most as it is currently happening in Emfuleni. We further do not have confidence in Mayor Sipho Radebe that he will have both his hands on the steering wheel and not allow the municipality to be on autopilot as it is currently happening. We are calling on him to apply superior logic and cut the middleman everywhere in the municipality without fail.”

Makhosonke Sangweni, ELM’s Manager for Communications, Marketing, Branding, and Event Management said that this is a political position of a political party the Municipality can’t respond to.

“They have been bringing the motion to Council and have been unsuccessful in getting the majority of councillors to support them.”
