Guardian of 13 children seek assistance

"A number of good Samaritans offered to assist me in extending the house. They have gathered some bricks, and planks, among other building materials," said Manaene Motejana.

BOPHELONG – A local mother, Manaene Motejana, is reaching out for assistance as she faces the daily struggle of providing for her large family. Motejana, aged 46, resides in a modest two-room RDP house with 13 children under her care.

Life has not been easy for Motejana and her family, as they endure nights with empty stomachs and cramped living conditions.

Each evening, the family piles up on the floor, facing the harsh reality of limited space and resources.

However, a glimmer of hope has emerged for Motejana and her children as the community has come together to provide much-needed assistance.

Following her plea for help on a local radio station, generous Good Samaritans have stepped up and volunteered to extend the family’s home, ensuring it accommodates everyone comfortably.

Motejana expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support, stating, “A number of good Samaritans offered to assist me in extending the house. They have gathered some bricks, and planks, among other building materials.”

In her own words, Motejana shared the weight of her responsibility, saying, “I am both a mother and father of the house. I stay with 13 children, and no one works.” She went on to detail their family composition, explaining, “I have five kids, and our cousin also has five kids, and my daughter has one.”

The ages of the children living with Motejana range from 34, 29, 19, 15, 15, 14, 10, 8, 5, 4, 2, 10 months, and six months, highlighting the diverse needs of her household.

The #Rekaofela Kasi organization has been instrumental in coordinating efforts to support the Motejana family.

Simon Nkosi from the organization said, “We deal with issues related to crime in our community and help other families who need certain donations. We felt the need to assist the lady and we approached Bophelong Bricks who donated bricks, and other stakeholders who are having their fair share.”
