Umoja Swimming School gives swimming lessons

They are appealing to the companies and business people within the community to help them with swimming pool resources.

SEBOKENG.- The Umoja Swimming School is taking the initiative to conduct swimming lessons for the community of Zone 11, Sebokeng.

This good news was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by Sengkepeng Mutlanyana who believes that this initiative will help the Zone 11 community, especially young people who want to make a career out of swimming.

“There is no swimming pool in Zone 11 and our kids had to travel to Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14 when they want to swim. We all know that swimming is part of the Olympic Games and if we teach these kids how to swim at a young age I have no doubt that we will produce swimming champions in our community.”

“To make swimming accessible, affordable, and within reach of our community we aim to equip our community with swimming life skills and to provide the highest quality swimming lesson. We are a new organisation founded by SSA Mutlanyana and KV in 2023,” she said.

Mutlanyana said the motivation behind starting the swimming school was the challenge of finding an inclusive swimming school for the son of one of the founders who has special needs. She told Sedibeng Ster Sport, that it was important to establish a swimming school that would allow learners with special needs to learn together with abled learners.

She added, “Our pool is heated and enclosed to ensure comfort and privacy, even our lounge and change areas are heated. Our facilities allow us to work throughout the season.”

Mutlanyana told Sedibeng Ster Sport that the aim is to teach as many kids and adults to swim as possible as they believe this part of the fun and lifesaving skill is essential for everyone regardless of age or ability.

She further told Sedibeng Ster Sport that they are appealing to the companies and business people within the community to help them with swimming pool resources such as large swimming facilities so that they can expand their swimming program to include coaching and competitive swimming.

This swimming school is in Zone 11, House No 14592 Pherekgong Street, Sebokeng.
