Vaal Stars hosts fundraising tournament
The winners will receive a netball kit, medals, and a trophy while the runner-up will receive medals and a netball match ball.
EVATON.- Vaal Stars Netball Club will host a fundraising netball tournament scheduled to take place on January 27.
This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by the Vaal Stars Netball Club founder, Lebohang Mphuti. The club is one of the ambitious netball teams in Sedibeng affiliated with the local netball structures. Mphuti told Sedibeng Ster Sport that the main purpose of this tournament is to raise funds for the club.
He further revealed that he runs the club out of his pocket and it is not easy. Like other netball teams, Vaal Stars Netball Club struggles to secure a sponsorship. The same can be said about the Sedibeng Netball Federation, in fact, this is a regional crisis with all community sporting codes having no financial support.
Mphuti said all the teams are invited to be part of the tournament under the following age groups, u/15 and u/19. The winners will receive a netball kit, medals, and a trophy while the runner-up will receive medals and a netball match ball.
“We would like to invite all the netball teams to come and support this initiative because it is not only about Vaal Stars but Sedibeng netball because part of the money we will raise on the day will also help those players who will be selected for the Sedibeng regional team. We all know that every year we experience a challenge with the players who are selected for the regional squads struggling to raise funds.”
