Man arrested for drunk driving and possession of an unlicensed firearm

The VW Golf driver was under the influence of alcohol.

SASOLBURG – A 29-year-old male was arrested for drunk driving and possession of an unlicensed firearm yesterday, February 3.

It is said that at about 04:30, the Fezile Dabi District Highway Patrol Relief (A) members were performing their duties along the R57 road towards Vanderbijlpark direction when they came across a motor vehicle accident where a VW Golf 5 collided with a truck.

“The members interviewed both drivers and discovered that the VW Golf driver was under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was arrested on the spot for driving under the influence of alcohol. The members found an unlicensed firearm and three live rounds of ammunition in possession of the suspect”, said Police spokesperson, Sergeant Josephine Rani.

The suspect is detained and will make his first court appearance, tomorrow, Monday, February 5, at the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court.
