SEDIBENG – A new star has been born in the world of music, bringing with her a fresh and soulful breeze that is capturing the hearts of many.
Nomaswazi Tshabalala, affectionately known as Ke-Swazi, has taken a bold leap from the corporate world to pursuing her true calling as a soul and RnB DJ.
Nomaswazi’s story of how she became is one that depicts passion, determination, and a strong love for music.
Leaving behind a stable 9-5 job, she embarked on a path many only dream of, transforming her passion into a thriving career.
Her various talents are evident as she juggles multiple roles – from being a resident DJ and club manager to a well-known soul player in and around Vaal.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Ke-Swazi shared her journey from the first day of playing on the decks as a joyride to officially making DJing a career.
“I started DJing in April 2023. My story of how I ended here still baffles me. We were at a local tavern fooling around cd-jays in front of a country. After playing several people told me to take playing music as a career, and that is how I became a deejay. I followed the advice because I was fond of soul music, hence the genre I play,” she said.
Explaining ditching her job in retail, Swazi said she wanted to focus on music because she saw a bright future for herself.
“Retail takes one’s time. I couldn’t focus on both jobs, so I decided to apply all my energy in deejaying because of the love and seemingly it also paid well,” she said.
In a new twist, the 41-year-old has recently joined Ghetto, a popular club in Sebokeng as a manager.
Touching base on her new gig, Swazi said she enjoys every moment of it.
“Music has exposed me to yet another love I have which is managing. Since I have joined Ghetto, I have been part of an exceptional team lead by Jabu Mhlanga. Being exposed to promotional work that we recently embarked on makes me love each moment,” she said.
