Mother and son buried after fatal shack fire

Bophelong community came in their numbers to support the Molapisi family during the funeral of Regina and Warona Molapisi.

BOPHELONG – Residents of Bophelong gathered on Wednesday to lay to rest Regina Molapisi (32) and her son, Warona (1), who tragically died in a shack fire on June 03.

In the early hours of the tragic incident, a fire engulfed their two-room shack, quickly turning their home into a blaze.

Regina’s swift reaction was to protect her baby. In her final moments, she used her body to shield Warona from the flames, hoping to save him from the deadly fire.

Despite her efforts, both mother and son succumbed to the blaze.

Their funeral was held at their family home in Extension 10, where neighbours, friends, and relatives came together to grieve and support the family.

Somber faces and heartfelt prayers marked the funeral as the community paid their last respects to the duo.

Different speakers who took to the podium described Regina as a loving, funny, straight-talker and a dedicated mother.

Tumelo Motloang, Warona’s father, spoke to Ster on the sidelines at the Nanescol cemetery where the two were laid to rest.

Grieving and filled with unanswered questions, he struggled to find words to express his pain and loss.

“It only sinks to me now that I have lost two people I loved with my whole heart.

I’m battling with the grief and so many questions I don’t have answers to,” he said.

“I’m left with answerless questions which I don’t know how to comprehend. Even when people ask me what happened, I can’t explain it to them. I also ask myself how did this happen? Why did this happen to them? They didn’t deserve this.” Said the visibly shuttered father.
