BOPHELONG. – A family recently unknowingly took their 10-year-old son to a bogus doctor after hearing about a free medical circumcision opportunity. Little did they know that their decision would haunt them forever.
This comes after a tragic incident in which his private parts were severely injured, allegedly by a doctor from a circumcision NGO at a church in Sharpeville on Tuesday, June 18.
Left with a rotting penis, the family now demands answers about what happened to their son.
Ster South visited the family at Extension 10, who shared the harrowing details of what transpired.
“I wasn’t sure about it, but we decided to take him for the circumcision. While I waited, the doctor took me to a private space to talk and I immediately knew something had gone horribly wrong,” said his grandmother.
She said the doctor told her that he was taking the young boy to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for urgent medical attention.
“With schools reopening soon, I was hopeful he would recover, which is why I opted for the circumcision during the winter holidays. I never imagined such a horrific outcome,” she added.
Gauteng Health Department spokesperson Motalatale Modiba confirmed that the incident is under investigation by the Sedibeng District Health Services.
