Sebokeng SAPS hosts sports against substance abuse and GBV
The rate of drug users who usually die in hospital is alarming.

SEDIBENG.- The Sebokeng SAPS hosted the sports against substance abuse and Gender Based Violence (GBV) awareness campaign in Zone 11, Sebokeng last Wednesday.

– Dept of Community Safety
– Dept of Social Development
– Toughest Young Minds (NGO)
– Lesedi la Batjha (NGO)
– Randwater
– GBV Brigades
Sergeant Maria Molefi addressed the community about the increase of contributing crimes caused by substance abuse, such as burglaries, robberies, and theft. She urged the community members to report drugs dealers to the police or even anonymously to the Station Commander Brigadier Thembekile Kubone. Molefi further added that those who wish to quit using drugs can go to the Dept of Social Development, and the will be to the referred rehabilitation centers.
Sergeantt Morake from the Sedibeng Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) raised awareness about rape and the contributing factor is also drug related as some victims (both males or females) are sometimes drugged and later raped. The Dept of Correctional Service addressed the community about parolees and pleaded with them to give parolees support, especially those who are trying to change.
A representative from the Dept of Health said that the rate of drug users who usually die in hospital is alarming and she requested the community members to start helping their children as early as they suspect that they are using drugs before they become addicted. A representative from the Department of Community Safety informed the community about the e-panic, how it works, and how to download it.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said that the community members appreciated the program and requested that it continues until Zone 11 Park becomes a place where children can go play and be safe.
The event will continue until August 2024.
The Station Commander Brigadier Thembekile urged the community members to report any form of corruption, crime and abuse.
