Fishing trip tragically ends in drowning

Police spokesperson Constable Tlaleng Moloi confirmed that investigations to determine the cause of death are ongoing.

HENLEY ON KLIP. – Mary Musa (39) from Sicelo is reeling in shock following the death of her husband, 41-year-old Tinashe Chando. Chando died in a drowning incident at Henley Weir on November 22.

It is said that Chando and his friend were on a fishing trip when an accident leading to his death occurred.

The Meyerton police with the SAPS Water Wing activated a search operation in the area following reports that the man had fallen into the river. It is said that he fell into the water after stepping on a platform in an attempt to fish deeper into the water.

Police spokesperson Constable Tlaleng Moloi confirmed the incident, adding that the search operation would become active as soon as the water is safe.

Musa said that the body of her husband was recovered on November 24 by the team.

“The police came to alert me that he had been found. They took me to Sebokeng Mortuary where I identified him.”

Moloi confirmed that investigations to determine the cause of death are ongoing.
