Four suspects nabbed for robbing popular Three Rivers bakery

The suspects have been detained and are now facing multiple charges of business robbery, attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and possession of stolen property.

VEREENIGING – Four suspects are due to appear in court this week following a business robbery at Progress Bakery in Three Rivers on November 30.

It is alleged that the armed suspects entered the bakery and demanded cash. During the incident, a panic button was activated. The security company and police were alerted and responded swiftly.

Upon the security guards’ arrival at the scene, the suspects fired several shots. One security guard sustained a gunshot wound. The suspects subsequently fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane explains a high-speed chase and shootout ensued on General Hertzog Road while in pursuit of the suspects.

“Upon reaching the corner of R82 and Voortrekker Street robots, the suspects drove into a motor vehicle belonging to a civilian. Two suspects were shot during the shootout. The civilian escaped unharmed but her vehicle was damaged.”

Authorities together with security personnel persisted until all four suspects were apprehended.

The suspects are facing multiple charges of business robbery, attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and possession of stolen property.

Vereeniging SAPS station commander Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba applauded both the security guards and her team of police officers for their bravery and dedication.
