Trio behind bars following Orange Farm mob justice

A trio is behind bars following their arrest on Monday.

ORANGE FARM – Three men are behind bars following an alleged vigilante act in Lakeside Extension 1 on January 20.

According to the Orange Farm police spokesperson, Sergeant Shaan Motsapi, their officers were summoned to a murder scene, and on arrival, they discovered a lifeless body in the street.

Motsapi further added that the male who had bruises on his body, was left for dead in his boxer shorts.

“It is alleged that the deceased was assaulted in the form of a vigilante act because he was accused of stealing items that belonged to some of the suspects who had assaulted him. The victim succumbed to the injuries sustained during the assault,” he said.

“An intensive investigation led to the arrest of three suspects, who were positively linked to the murder.  It appeared the suspects knew the deceased,” he added.

Orange Farms SAPS station commander Brigadier Mashole Manamela applauded the swift response that led to the arrest of the suspects.

Manamela also indicated his appreciation for the community that assisted the police during the investigation.

He emphasised that partnership policing is a requirement and condition for curbing crime in communities.

The three suspects will soon appear at the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of murder.
