SEBOKENG – At a time when the quality of education has been a trending topic, African Bank is doing its bit to raise the standard.
As part of the national roadshow for its Whole School Development (WSD) programme, aimed at transforming learning environments in township and rural schools, the bank proudly hosted an event at Fukama Primary School in Sebokeng to ensure learners have the tools they need to succeed academically.
Group CEO Kennedy Bungane, once a student at Fukama Primary, led the handover of newly built and renovated school facilities, as well as the distribution of essential school supplies.
Addressing the gathered crowds, Bungane shared his connection to Fukama Primary during his speech.
“As someone who once walked the same corridors of Fukama Primary, returning here today humbles me immensely. African Bank is building communities with a zeal and audacity to believe in their future,” he said.
“Our commitment to improving education is about more than just providing resources. It’s about creating sustainable, empowered communities that can thrive. We believe in the power of education to transform lives, and we stand ready to help build a future where every learner has the opportunity to succeed,” he added.
In March 2022, African Bank launched a comprehensive development initiative at Fukama aimed at transforming education in South Africa through the Whole School Development programme.
The initiative has led to significant improvements at Fukama, including the replacement of the asbestos roof, the construction of a new dining and nutrition centre, and a dedicated educator ablution block, all designed with sustainability in mind through energy-efficient features.
These upgrades not only enhance the learning environment for students and teachers but also positively impact the local community by creating temporary employment opportunities and supporting 14 small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) over the past three years.
Throughout the day, stakeholders and community members had the opportunity to engage in the positive changes that have been made.
The ongoing transformation at Fukama is a testament to the African Bank’s deep commitment to educational growth and community empowerment.
