Over 300 shoes donated to Rust-Ter-Vaal Primary

VEREENIGING – The Rust-Ter-Vaal Golf Club has put smiles on the faces of over 300 pupils from Rus-Ter-Vaal Primary School who benefited from a donation of school shoes recently.
The club was registered in January 2024 and has 30 members who want to get involved in a relaxed extra-mural activity while doing their best to give back to the community.
“We started as friends who were interested in playing golf. An interest developed among other guys and that is how the club grew. As young men from this community, we want to make a difference through drives that bring change.”
Speaking to Ster North, chairperson Kently Meintjies said one of their objectives is to give back to the community. Meintjies said they know that their community is often disadvantaged, increasing the number of needs that need to be addressed.
“Because we live in this community, we identified where there is a need. The idea to donate shoes to the kids came after we saw many of them wearing worn-out shoes to school. As a way to raise funds, we held a charity golf day where we invited various stakeholders. That is how we were able to purchase more than 300 pairs of shoes to donate to the school.”
“We hope this donation will instill confidence in the children and make them realise how important they are. We just want to be a helping hand in the community.”
Meintjies said there are many other plans in the pipeline to help uplift communities. He stated that they will continue working with various sponsors and members of the community who are always keen to lend a helping hand whenever the need arises.
The donation was received by the sports master Clifton Abrahams on behalf of the school. Abrahams said he was grateful for what the club had done for the school. He urged them to continue their good deeds and work to uplift the community.
