New facilities unveiled at Fukama primary

The initiative is closely aligned with African Bank’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

SEBOKENG. – The African Bank Whole School Development programme in partnership with Adopt-a-School Foundation has through various projects elevated Fukama Primary School in Zone 12 to new heights.

On January 23, African Bank Chief Executive Officer Kennedy Bungane, accompanied by Group Chief Transformation & Sustainability Officer Edna Sathekga-Montse, unveiled a state-of-the-art dining and nutrition centre, along with new ablution blocks. Renovations carried out at the school include the removal of asbestos roofing.

The day was filled with ululations, song, and celebration as scores of parents, pupils, teachers, the School Governing Body (SGB), and the community at large witnessed the resounding success of projects initiated in 2022. As a result, more than 100 members of the community were temporarily employed for the duration of the project.

The initiative is closely aligned with African Bank’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The projects focus on improving educational quality to eradicate poverty, reduce inequality, and address critical challenges such as access to clean water, as well as sanitation, and energy efficiency.

Addressing parents and the staff at the school, Bungane said he was impressed by how parents behaved in making the project a success. Bungane further states he was filled with pride as Fukama is his former school.

“We are happy to report that this year, we will be continuing our relationship with the school.”

Talking to pupils, Bungane urged them to remain respectful and work diligently to achieve greatness in the future.

“If you guys carry on in this manner, you will become the CEOs and presidents.”

Sathekga-Montse said she likes to do spot-checks, citing that during the project she often found herself cracking the whip and ensuring that all the plans are implemented and brought to life.

The event ended with a school uniform handover from African Bank, other items given to pupils include school shoes, stationery, and backpacks

The SGB thanked the African Bank and Adopt-a-School Foundation for making a great contribution to the school and positively impacting the lives of the children who are going to benefit from the initiative.
