ORANGE FARM – Police have arrested a 19-year-old suspect following the murder of his three-year-old brother, believed to have been poisoned. The incident happened on January 31.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Shaan Motsapi reports that police arrived at the scene and found the lifeless body of the boy inside a dustbin.
“The gruesome discovery was made by another sibling who became suspicious when he saw the suspect pulling a dustbin to an open veld near the N1 national road.
“He followed the suspect and ordered him to open the dustbin. The suspect refused, and an altercation ensued. The suspect subsequently fled the scene.”
Community members assisted police who worked tirelessly to find and arrest the suspect.
The suspect will soon appear at the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court to answer to charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
Orange Farm SAPS station commander Brigadier Mashole Manamela commended officers for ensuring the suspect was brought to justice and thanked community members for their assistance. He further thanked members of the community for assisting the police.
“The law should take decisive action against the suspect,” he said.
