MIDVAAL – The police in Sedibeng District and various law enforcement nabbed more than 30 suspects during Operation Shanela in Meyerton and Kliprivier policing areas respectively. The operation was carried out on 20 February.
These suspects were arrested for dealing and having drugs, being undocumented as well as employing illegal immigrants. Officers issued multiple fines to liquor outlets and motorists who violated traffic laws.
The second phase of the operation was conducted through a community engagement where stakeholders engaged members of the community at Boitumelo informal settlement in Klipriver to strengthen the partnership between the community and the police.
During the engagement, Vereeniging SAPS station commander Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba engaged community members on issues of crime.
“We urge you as the community to collaborate with the police in the fight against crime. You can do this by being part of various structures such as Community Policing Forums, youth crime prevention desk, and spiritual crime prevention.”
Ndaba thanked the community members for their attendance and their willingness to partner with the police in making Kliprivier a crime-free area.
She further highlighted that the community is the eyes and ears of the police.
Sedibeng District police commissioner Major General Nkhensani Mukwevho, joined by other officials, conducted an engagement at Sicelo Community Hall to address safety and security concerns within the area and enhance partnerships with citizens to create safer communities.
