Sasolburg roads in shambles

The DA is calling for immediate action to repair Paardeberg Road in Vaalpark, where dangerous potholes force drivers into oncoming traffic, increasing the risk of fatal accidents.

SASOLBURG – A disaster waiting to happen.
The DA will raise urgent questions in the Metsimaholo Council regarding the municipality’s failure to maintain tar roads, which has left residents frustrated and put motorists at serious risk.
The DA is calling for immediate action to repair Paardeberg Road in Vaalpark, where dangerous potholes force drivers into oncoming traffic, increasing the risk of fatal accidents.
According to DA chief whip for Metsimaholo Municipality Ruanda Meyer, across Sasolburg, Zamdela, and as far as Deneysville, road infrastructure is collapsing due to years of neglect and a complete lack of maintenance.
“In residential areas, roads have been left in deteriorating conditions, further adding to residents’ frustration,” she said.
“The Metsimaholo Technical Department rarely fills potholes due to constant shortages of resources and materials, as they are always waiting for suppliers to deliver stock.”
Meyer added that one of the most critical concerns is Paardeberg Road, a high-traffic single-lane route that connects Vaalpark residents to key destinations. The chief whip also said residents have even suggested closing Paardeberg Road for their safety until urgent repairs are carried out.
“This highlights the severity of the situation and the community’s loss of confidence in the municipality’s ability to provide basic services. The DA will continue to monitor the situation and demand accountability from Metsimaholo officials.
A formal question will be raised in the next council meeting regarding the dire state of all tar roads in the municipality.
We will not allow inaction to put the lives of road users at risk,” Meyer concluded.
