85 suspects arrested in weekend crackdown

A total of 85 suspects were arrested for different crimes in Vanderbijlpark recently.

VANDERBIJLPARK – A massive police sting operation over the weekend saw 85 suspects taken in during a no-nonsense crackdown across Vanderbijlpark and Bophelong.

Led by Sedibeng District officers and a team of multidisciplinary law enforcers, the famous Operation Shanela left criminals nowhere to hide on March 8.

Acting district commissioner Brigadier Mashole Manamela led the barrage, proving that law and order will always prevail.

According to Vanderbijlpark police spokesperson, Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu, the operation kicked off with a serious raid by the Sedibeng Detective Unit, bringing in 13 most wanted suspects.

“The arrested suspects included three for contact crimes, three for sexual offenses, three for serious crimes, one for tampering with infrastructure, and two more for other serious offenses,” he said.

Following the raids, law enforcement agencies flooded the streets with roadblocks and search operations, making 21 arrests for drunk driving alone.

“We also nabbed 31 illegal immigrants, while two suspects were busted for carjacking and kidnapping. Two more were found selling liquor without a license and were swiftly taken in,” said Sigcu.

The acting district commissioner, Brigadier Mashole Manamela, applauded the successes made by the members and also indicated the importance of these operations to curb criminal activities in our communities.
