VANDERBIJLPARK – Hundreds of Vaal University Students and the local community joined arms to join a national march for Cwecwe recently.
The gathered crowds united to voice their concerns over the alarming prevalence of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) and sexual assault in schools.
This was in solidarity with thousands of protestors who took to the streets across provinces in the country calling for justice for seven-year-old Cwecwe who was raped.

The incident allegedly took place at her school in the Eastern Cape recently.
Following the matter making news and numerous cases of sexual assault occurring within school premises across the country, the demonstrators aimed to hand over memorandums outlining their demands for enhanced safety measures in educational institutions.

Hundreds of students, including different organisations such as Youth League in Sedibeng and the EFF Student Command, sang and chanted during the demonstrations. With placards written “Stop GBV, Justice for Cwecwe, GBV ends with us, Enough is Enough,” different speakers took to the podium to give their messages of support.
