Trio nabbed in Heilbron sting operation

Trio behind bars after being nabbed with an illegal firearm in the Free State.

HEILBRON – A quiet afternoon on the R57 turned into a dramatic scene when cops swooped in and busted three armed men possibly plotting something sinister.

This comes after the Fezile Dabi District Tactical Response Team operationalised intelligence following a tip-off about a suspicious white VW Polo on April 12.

Upon searching the vehicle, two illegal pistols, 10 rounds of live ammo, and three cell phones were discovered.

Fezile Dabi District police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani confirmed the vehicle was confiscated.

“The arrest happened around 15:00 following swift response to the information. The vehicle was confiscated after officers had cornered the suspects. Two of the arrested individuals are nationals from Lesotho.”

The three men, aged between 29 and 43, now face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and conspiracy to commit a crime. They’re expected to appear before the Heilbron Magistrate’s Court soon.
