VANDERBJILPARK – SAPS in Vanderbijlpark have launched a manhunt for a suspect linked to a spate of robberies in their precinct.
This comes after a duo was arrested on Monday, following a horrific robbery in transit, which led to an accident.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu, their members were summoned to an accident scene where they found a quartet injured after their vehicle veered off the road.
Sigcu said that upon their arrival, their Trio Task Team conducted investigations, which led to the arrest of a pair.
“Our task team arrested two African males for robbery with a firearm. During the month, two motor vehicles terrorised our areas by robbing people after they offered them a lift.”
“It is alleged that the two victims this week were at the robots next to Vaal Mall on their way to Sasolburg when a silver Renault stopped and offered them a lift. The vehicle in question had three occupants inside,” he said.
Sigcu added that during the lift, the duo was robbed of their belongings at gunpoint by the occupants of the vehicle.
“One of the victims managed to overpower the other suspect and started to fight with the driver, who was pointing a firearm. The motor vehicle veered off the road, leaving the two suspects with minor injuries, whilst the other suspect managed to escape the scene,” he said.
“The victims narrated the cause of the accident, after which the suspects were arrested at the scene,” he added.
Sigcu said the suspects appeared in court today (April 24) for their first appearance and the case was remanded for next week, Thursday, for further investigation.
The Station Commander, Brigadier PS Ndwandwe, was thrilled about the recent arrest and encouraged SAPS members to be more visible in the area.
He also applauded the swift response by our members.
