Vigilance urged as hijackings rise

Motorists are urged not to stop next to the road to relieve themselves, especially when it is dark or quiet, “as this vulnerability can be exploited by potential hijackers,” said Mahlomola.

The police in De Deur have issued a stern warning to motorists on the R557 and Grasmere Road to take precautionary measures and be alert at all times.

Police spokesperson Constable Mampho Mahlomola states that a disturbing trend has emerged of a group of males hijacking motorists on that road.
“We are working tirelessly to apprehend these criminals. De Deur SAPS has intensified and bolstered patrols on the R557 and Grasmere Road to curb this criminality.”

Motorists are urged not to stop next to the road to relieve themselves, especially when it is dark or quiet, “as this vulnerability can be exploited by potential hijackers,” said Mahlomola.

The public is urged to report crime and suspicious vehicles by contacting De Deur SAPS on 016 590 9200 or the Crime Stop hotline on 08600 10111.
