Police van single rollover on Boy Louw Street

Reckless and negligent driving investigation underway after a police vehicle was involved in a single vehicle rollover accident.

VEREENIGING – A police van was involved in a single-vehicle rollover on June 9.

According to local police, a female officer was on her way to Vereeniging SAPS as she was performing her duties.

After passing a stop sign, her vehicle lost control and rolled over onto its side.

In a statement, Vereeniging police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said that upon inspection at the scene, the police officer noticed oil on the road and that the state vehicle had lost control due to the slippery road conditions.

“The police officer sustained no injuries,” she said.

Mokhachane said the Station Commander, Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba, would like to urge drivers to be cautious when passing stop signs, as oil on the road reduces friction, making it harder to control vehicles and increasing the risk of skidding.

“Spilled oil can damage vehicles’ tires and braking systems. An oil spill on the road is a serious safety hazard and environmental concern. It can create a slippery surface, increasing the risk of accidents,” she said.

Any person who may need police help can contact Vereeniging SAPS on 082 558 2348, 10111, 08600 10111, 112, or via the MySAPS App.
