Zamdela top cop puts rape suspect behind bars

“I’m happy with the outcome because the victim received justice," said Mankge.

SASOLBURG – Zamdela SAPS investigating officer Sergeant Agnes Mankge has made a name for herself after putting a rapist behind bars.

Tumelo Christian Khotha (30) was found guilty by the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court and was sentenced to 26 years behind bars on June 20.

Khotha was charged with rape and assault GBH (Grievous Bodily Harm) following a 2022 case where he repeatedly assaulted his victim at his home.

Ster South met with the proud officer who works for the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), who shared the merits of the case and what she did differently in order to garner the conviction.

“I was on standby on March 6, 2022, when I received a call from Deneysville SAPS around 00:40 informing me about a rape victim. I got there and interviewed the victim, who told me she was attacked by a trio who chased her and her boyfriend. When the boyfriend managed to evade the scene, she was dragged to a shack where she was assaulted and repeatedly raped the entire night by one suspect,” Mankge said.

Having served 17-years as a female police officer, Mankge joined the service because she hated crime.

“I always had an interest to work in this unit. From a young age, I despised crime hence I became a law enforcer,” she said.

With her experience and securing almost 10 convictions including a life sentence, Mankge works tirelessly to bring her suspects to book.

Sharing her reaction on her latest conviction, Mankge said she’s content with the sentence as it serves justice to those who trust her.

“I’m happy with the outcome because the victim received justice. This means my dreams are coming true. Seemingly I serve justice to those who are victims of crime,” she concluded.
