VUT FM’s Mercy Makole bags big nomination

VUT FM's presenter, Mercy Makole bags a hot nomination at the Community Radio Awards

VANDERBIJLPARK – VUT FM’s morning drive radio sensation, Mercy Makole, is glowing with excitement after bagging a hot nomination at the Community Radio Awards.

Makole, who drives thousands of his listeners to work and helps push morning preparations for dozens with his electrifying energy and crisp delivery, has been nominated in the desired Best Breakfast Show Presenter category.

Competing against big names from across the country, the Bophelong-born broadcaster says his nomination has reignited his fire for radio, and he remains hopeful that he will bring the award home.

Speaking to Ster, the bubbly radioman shared his story and how his love for radio came about.
While detailing his 11-year journey, he minced no words on what the nomination means to him.

“The nod means so much to me, especially that it’s my 11th year being behind the mic. I got my first nomination when I was still studying journalism at Jeppe College of Commerce and Computer Studies, and I brought the award home.

“Now that I am nominated for this prestigious award, including people from all over the country, it gives me joy to know that I am doing good work during my show,” he said.

While his first award meant a lot, Makole said this one hit different because his nod came from people who don’t know him.

“Back in college, I felt that the nomination was done by people who knew me. But now, it’s people I’ve never even met who chose me. I think they felt the authenticity, that raw voice of a young boy from Bophelong,” he said.

“At some point, I wanted to leave radio and focus on business and law studies, but this nomination came at the right time,” he added.

The awards gala for the Community Radio Awards is set for August 1, which is Makole’s birth month.

“Because this month is not just a month for me, I’m confident that I will win,” he said.

A cherry on top for Makole is receiving a Trailblazer of the year at VUT FM, following his nomination.
