SICELO – Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Tasneem Motara, accompanied by the mayor of the Midvaal Local Municipality, Peter Teixeira, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving challenges in the Sicelo Shiceka Phase 1 Development following concerns raised by the community.
During the oversight visit, residents highlighted persistent problems, including water leaks, roof defects, and sewer blockages.
MEC Motara met with community leaders to listen to their grievances and provide assurance that their concerns will be addressed.
“We are determined to restore the dignity of the Sicelo Shiceka community by urgently attending to the issues identified. The department will also review the alternative building technology used in the project to ensure its durability and longterm suitability,” said Motara.
The MEC further appealed for patience, requesting residents to allow the department the necessary time to conduct a thorough investigation and develop sustainable, lasting solutions.
The Sicelo Shiceka Development, situated in the Midvaal Local Municipality, has already delivered 180 housing units under Phase 1.
Phase 2 is set to deliver an additional 540 units upon completion.
