Police in a single rollover accident, officers seriously injured

A reckless and negligent driving case has been opened at Boipatong police station following a single rollover accident that saw a police van capsizing near Sebokeng.

BOIPATONG – Three police officers from Orange Farm were left seriously injured following a single rollover of their vehicle on Frikkie Meyer Road around 19:00 on September 24.

According to eyewitnesses, the marked Ford Ranger was travelling towards Sebokeng when the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned.

Boipatong Police were called to the scene, and upon arrival, found the trio had already been transported to Nkanyezi Private Hospital, just a few metres away from the scene.

Speaking to Ster, Boipatong Police spokesperson Constable Selinah Mthimkulu confirmed the incident.

“According to our duty officer, she responded to the scene and on arrival found an Orange Farm marked Ford Ranger double cab which had overturned on the right side facing Sebokeng direction (Moshoeshoe street). No occupants were inside the vehicle.”

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.

Mthimkulu said a reckless and negligent driving case has been opened.
