Proceeds from Mayoral Golf Day benefits Ikhwezi Lokusa
Midvaal Local Municipality’s second annual Mayoral Charity Golf Day supported the Ikhwezi Lokusa Centre, helping fund improvements to its facilities.
The Ikhwezi Lokusa Centre is this year’s beneficiary of the second annual Midvaal Local Municipality Mayoral Charity Golf Day held on October 16.
The municipality donated more than R60 000, raised through four-ball and hole sponsorships. Furthermore, Nedbank pledged R10 000 to support the centre, which provides care and accommodation for adult men living with mental health conditions. The proceeds will go towards refurbishing the centre and zoning applications to ensure it remains compliant.
In a statement, Midvaal said the beneficiary choice is particularly significant as the event takes place ahead of Movember, a global movement that raises awareness of men’s health, including mental health and suicide prevention.
Lynca Meats and Harvest Fresh also donated food packages to the centre as part of the Spread the Love Programme. Through this initiative, the municipality continues to demonstrate that its responsibility extends beyond the provision of basic services and that addressing social challenges requires meaningful collaboration with businesses, organisations and community partners.
The charity fundraiser was supported by Nedbank, Heineken Beverages, Standard Bank, Minolta Vaal, Model Liquor Distributors, Jacques Loots Attorneys, Lifeline, Midvaal Chamber of Commerce, Pick n Pay Meyerton, Tuis Coffee Shop and Lynca Meats.
Mayor Peter Teixeira expressed his appreciation to the sponsors for their contributions towards the initiative and their continued support of the municipality’s efforts to address social challenges.
“As Midvaal Local Municipality, we are grateful for our partners who continue to support our initiatives whenever we call on them. We recognise that government cannot address social challenges alone. It requires strong partnerships and collaboration with the private sector, civil society and the broader community to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents and support the most vulnerable members of our society.”
