Rotary celebrates Emfuleni pupil during prize-giving ceremony

‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.’ The learners of Emfuleni Primary embody this spirit of perseverance, hope, and ambition,” said president Zander Lintvelt.

BOPHELONG – The Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark was once again honoured to take part in the annual Emfuleni Primary Bophelong Prize-Giving and Award Ceremony, celebrating the outstanding academic achievements of learners who continue to excel despite many challenges.

For the past four years, the club has proudly sponsored the event, which aligns perfectly with Rotary’s Areas of Focus, particularly supporting education and growing local communities.

Speaking to Ster, president Zander Lintvelt said, “We believe that recognising young achievers not only rewards their hard work but also inspires them and their peers to continue striving for excellence. Each year, this day serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative impact of education.

As Nelson Mandela so wisely said, ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.’ The learners of Emfuleni Primary embody this spirit of perseverance, hope, and ambition,” he said.

Lintvelt added that the Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark also proudly presents the Service Above Self Trophy, an award that holds deep meaning within Rotary.

“Service Above Self” is the Rotary motto and reflects our belief that true leadership lies in serving others with compassion, integrity, and kindness.

This special trophy is not necessarily awarded to the top academic achiever or the most visible leader, but rather to a learner who exemplifies the Rotary values, someone who consistently demonstrates empathy, helpfulness, humility, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in their school and community.”

Rotary extended gratitude to Vaal Mall, which has been a steadfast partner in this initiative.

“Their generous sponsorship of gift vouchers for the top achievers adds a special touch to the celebration and makes the recognition even more meaningful,” he said.

“Over the years, the Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark has built a wonderful relationship with the educators, students, and parents of Emfuleni Primary. We are inspired by the dedication of the teachers, the enthusiasm of the learners, and the unwavering support of the parents who stand behind their children’s dreams,” he concluded.
