Three arrested for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm
Three suspects busted on the R59 after armed robbery in Koppies.
SASOLBURG – Three suspects have been arrested and charged for for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm in Free State.
In a statement, police said that the three suspects were nabbed along R59 towards Sasolburg during a joint operation by members of the Sasolburg Highway Relief, Trio Task Team, Sasolburg Public Order Policing (POP), Sasolburg Detectives, and other stakeholders.

“On Wednesday police received information regarding an armed robbery that had occurred in Koppies, during which property and a white Nissan Micra valued at approximately R145 000 were stolen.”
The stolen vehicle was later spotted travelling along the R59 towards Sasolburg, prompting a high-speed chase. The suspects attempted to evade police by turning onto a gravel road before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing into nearby bushes.
With the assistance of drone technology, one suspect was apprehended near the stolen vehicle, while the remaining two were arrested shortly thereafter. Police successfully recovered the stolen Nissan Micra, the stolen property, and an unlicensed firearm, all of which were confiscated for further investigation.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Parys Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
