ELM distances itself from the ‘bogus’ Red Cup Picnic

ELM lashed the usage of their logo on the popular Red Cup Picnic flyer, calling it bogus and misleading advertising.

VANDERBIJLPARK – The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) condemns in the strongest terms and distances itself from the unauthorised Red Cup Picnic event scheduled for today at the Cecil Old Ridge Park Sportsgrounds.

The municipality has also labelled the promotional posters circulating on social media as fraudulent and misleading.

According to municipal spokesperson Makhosonke Sangweni, the event organisers illegally used the ELM logo on their promotional material. Sangweni emphasised that this constitutes a criminal offense.

“ELM wishes to reassure the public that the malicious poster does not come from the municipality. All official municipal events will be communicated through verified Emfuleni Local Municipality platforms (Facebook, WhatsApp Channel, and media partners),” he said in a statement.

The municipality clarified that any private entity wishing to use official branding must obtain prior written permission from the Marketing, Branding, and Events Management Department.

Sangweni urged the public to refrain from sharing the poster and reminded residents that alcohol is strictly forbidden at municipal facilities and swimming pools.

“Our Super By-Law Enforcement Team, jointly with the SAPS, is currently on site monitoring the situation at the sportsgrounds,” he concluded.
