VEREENIGING. – A father and his young child were rescued after falling from a building in the Vereeniging CBD last week.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela, police were alerted by members of the community who reported that a child and his father had fallen from a second-floor window onto the first-floor landing.
It is alleged that the child initially fell from a balcony window. In a desperate attempt to save his child, the father also fell, sustaining serious injuries.
A multidisciplinary rescue operation was swiftly launched, involving the SAPS, Sekuriteit Sonder Grense, Gauteng EMS, ER24, Sharpmed, and Sector 2 CCF.

Maxambela says that through rapid coordination, emergency responders were able to reach and rescue the child within minutes.
ER24 personnel then assessed the father’s condition and began strategising his rescue, as time was critical due to his severe injuries. While planning, a nearby business owner provided a ladder, which responders used to reach the first-floor landing where the father was located.
Medical personnel from ER24 and Sekuriteit Sonder Grense reached the father and stabilised him. He was placed inside a skip, which was carefully lowered to the ground using the ladder as a slide. Both patients were transported to the hospital by ER24 and Gauteng EMS for further medical treatment.
Sekuriteit Sonder Grense extended their gratitude to all role players involved, praising the professionalism, teamwork, and swift response that helped save two lives. They further thanked the business owner for his assistance.
