Eleven pupils killed in accident between taxi and truck

Police and other role players are on the scene where eleven pupils lost their lives following a head-on collision.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Eleven pupils have lost their lives during a tragic incident that happened on the old Golden Highway this morning.

This comes after a private school transport collided with a truck, leaving five fighting for their lives.

According to information at our disposal, the driver of the taxi tried to overtake other vehicles heading towards Vanderbijlpark.

Police and other role players are on the scene as they try to retrieve bodies trapped inside the taxi.

Dozens of other scholar taxi drivers, together with devastated parents and relatives, have gathered as they wait to identify their children.

Meanwhile, Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, is set to visit the scene of the tragedy.

At this stage, the scene remains active, and emergency services are still attending to the incident.
