BOPHELONG – A 41-year-old man from Ext 5, was stabbed allegedly by his acquaintance following a tavern squabble between the duo on Saturday (February 21).
According to a family spokesperson, Thabiso Dibase and his friend allegedly had an argument at a nearby tavern.
Avoiding further confrontation, Thabiso decided to leave the venue and go home.
He was later re-invited by his friend to hang out. A physical fight broke out, which led to Thabiso’s demise after he was allegedly stabbed in the neck.
A neighbour who was in the midst of the duo went to Thabiso’s home to report the incident.
Nonhlanhla Dibase, family spokesperson, said when they arrived at the scene, Thabiso was lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
“When we went to the scene, we found him lying on the ground. His friend was already making a turn in his street corner. I tried to wake him up with the hope that he was just injured,” she said.
“The duo is used to clashing when they go out for drinks. The witness explained to us that after leaving the tavern, they both went to the suspect’s home while arguing. After some time, the deceased left. The suspect called him back, and just when he was about to enter the yard, the friend stabbed him,” she added.
Describing Thabiso, Nonhlanhla said her brother was a darling.
“He never liked squabbles. When there was a confrontation or a fight, he would leave,” she said.
Nonhlanhla said that while the family is failing to come to terms with their brother’s brutal demise, all they want is justice.
At the time of publishing this story, police had not responded to inquiries sent to them. This is a developing story.
