Pinedene and VUTgoes sixty/sixty

A sweet celebration of legacy and unity unfolded in Vanderbijlpark as Pinedene Primary School and Vaal University of Technology marked 60 years with a vibrant Easter egg hunt.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Both celebrating 60 years of existence, Pinedene Primary School and the Vaal University of Technology joined forces in celebrating their milestones through a vibrant easter egg hunt.

On March 24, pupils, educators, stakeholders, and distinguished guests came together at Pinedene’s school hall in Vanderbijlpark to celebrate, reflect, and share a deep sense of purpose.

The event proceeded seamlessly under the directorship of Vincent Mdluli from the HIV and AIDS Unit at VUT, whose steady coordination ensured a seamless flow from beginning to end.

Welcoming the guest to the school, Pinedene principal Bea du Pont gave a brief speech to express appreciation for the school’s staff and stakeholders, including SGB and VUT representatives.

She reflected on the significance of a partnership rooted in time, noting that both institutions were established in 1966 and will mark their 60-year anniversaries this year.

Speaking to Ster on the sidelines, Du Pont said, “It’s a blessing to be able to collaborate with parties from outside our school, especially the way this worked out for us and VUT. To also show our children, as well, that they are not just a part of a smaller community but also a bigger community of Vanderbijlpark.”

“Pinedene has grown, not just in years but also in stature. When I started in 1993, we had about 400 learners, and now we sit at 1142 learners. We are called a high-pressure school because everyone wants to be at Pinedene due to our quality education and well-rounded institution,” she said.

Vice-Chancellor and Principal at VUT, Prof Khehla Ndlovu said, “We thought the celebration would be a good idea since we share 60 years of existence and producing human development.”

Explaining why the celebration was that of an Easter egg hunt, Ndlovu said, “In view of the fact that we are closer to easter and kids love easter eggs, we opted for that programme. It could have been any celebration, but the Easter egg hunt fit well.”

Reacting to the success of the event, Ndlovu said, “We feel great that we were well received by the school. The kids were very excited about the event, and this is what celebration is about for us.”

VUT will continue sharing happiness with communities as they celebrate their milestone.

Recently, a golf day was held, and more events of this sort will be carried out for the better part of the year.
