Suspects linked to police murder fatally wounded in shootout
Three suspects linked to the murder of a police officer were fatally wounded in De Deur after they opened fire on officers during an intelligence-driven operation.
DE DEUR – Three suspects wanted for the murder of a police officer were shot dead during a shootout with police members in De Deur on April 8.
The suspects were also wanted in connection with attempted murder cases in the Johannesburg Central area.
The SAPS confirmed that a team from the Serious Organised Crime Investigation units in the Vaal and Germiston led the operation. These officers, supported by other specialist units, used gathered intelligence to track the suspects to a specific address.
Upon the arrival of the team at the said address, the suspects started to shoot at the police members. The officers returned fire, and the three suspects were fatally wounded during the exchange.
Following the shootout, police recovered a revolver and two pistols at the scene along with ammunition. Officers noted that two of the firearms had their serial numbers filed off.
