
ZAMDELA – The Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court has convicted and sentenced Bhekisisa Khumalo (54) to 13 years’ imprisonment for murder.
According to reports, Zamdela police responded to a complaint of murder on November 13, 2024, at approximately 08:04.
Upon arrival at the scene in Chris Hani, officers discovered the body of a 23-year-old woman, Mantsana ‘Spado’ Thulo, inside an outside toilet at a residential property.
Fezile Dabi police spokesperson, Sergeant Josephine Rani, said the victim was found partially undressed and unresponsive and was declared dead by emergency services.
“The investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Sibongile Nyofane, conducted a preliminary investigation at the scene. Acting swiftly on information received, she collaborated with other SAPS units and proceeded to the N3 highway, where a Vehicle Checkpoint was conducted. Taxis travelling towards Bergville were searched, leading to the successful arrest of the suspect,” she said.
Rani said that through a thorough investigation, it was established that the accused and the deceased had met at a local tavern and later went to his residence.
“An altercation reportedly occurred at the outside toilet, which resulted in the death of the victim,” she added.
