Lesufi leads major crime crackdown in Ratanda

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi led a large-scale integrated service delivery operation in Ratanda, resulting in arrests, liquor outlet closures, traffic fines, and community engagement on safety and service delivery issues.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, joined by the Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, the Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Kekana, and Tshwane Metropolitan Traffic Department Chief Yolanda Faro, led a large-scale multi-disciplinary Integrated Service Delivery Operation in Lesedi Local Municipality, Ratanda.

The multidisciplinary operation included various Gauteng Provincial Government departments and stakeholders, including various law enforcement agencies. The programme was geared towards enhancing public safety, strengthening law enforcement visibility, and improving service delivery to the community.

Police confirm that during the operation, a major roadblock was conducted, leading to the arrest of 35 undocumented persons for contravention of the Immigration Act.

“One suspect was arrested for possession of drugs, while four liquor outlets were shut down for non-compliance with liquor regulations. Traffic officials issued 44 fines amounting to R26 650 for various road traffic infringements. Inspections and compliance checks were also conducted at various business premises.”

Lesufi and Executive Mayor Mluleki Nkosi led compliance checks supported by law enforcement and various compliance teams at the local mall as part of the Integrated Provincial Service Delivery Operations in Lesedi.

The second leg of the operation was a community imbizo where Lesufi met with the Ratanda community at the multi-purpose hall.

The Gauteng Provincial Government addressed safety and service delivery concerns affecting the community.

The Premier briefly summarised the purpose of the engagement and introduced the panel to the stakeholders. He encouraged the stakeholders not to hold back but to voice their issues during the open session.
