Man dies after Boipatong street stabbing

A 49-year-old man was stabbed to death following an alleged botched robbery, plunging the community into shock.

BOIPATONG – A serene morning was disturbed in the early hours of May 17 when residents were woken up to a murder scene.

Pitros Sibeko (49) was found dead inside a makeshift street vendor’s stall at the corner of Dr Nkomo Drive and Leshoboro Street after being stabbed on his way home from a local tavern.

According to a police report, the trouble began when unknown suspects approached Sibeko and his friends in an apparent robbery attempt. While his companions managed to flee the scene, they later returned to a devastating discovery.

Speaking to Ster, Sergeant Matebello Tlokolo said: “When the deceased’s friends later returned, they found the deceased lying inside a street vendor’s shack with a stab wound above his left eye.”

As the news spread, distraught cries from the victim’s family echoed through the neighbourhood. Dozens of residents braved the chilly morning air to watch as police officers combed the area for evidence.

Sibeko was certified dead at the scene, and his body was transported to Sebokeng Mortuary.
