Teixeira calls for unity to drive sustainable development in Midvaal

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration, improving community wellbeing, and promoting ethical, people-centred governance.

Midvaal Local Municipality Mayor Peter Teixeira reaffirmed his commitment to working in unison with the community to reach sustainable development. This follows a meaningful engagement with faith-based organisations and traditional health practitioners at the Midvaal Town Hall on May 19.

The meeting, attended by key community stakeholders, was geared towards fostering collaboration, strengthening partnerships, and promoting inclusive development across the municipality.

Addressing his guests, Teixeira emphasised the critical role played by both faith leaders and traditional healers as pillars of community support, guidance, and cultural preservation.

“You are trusted voices in our communities. Your influence extends beyond guidance; it transforms lives and strengthens the social fabric of Midvaal.”

The engagement was rooted in the municipality’s commitment to inclusive, accountable, and community-driven governance. Teixeira highlighted that sustainability can only be achieved through active collaboration between government and community structures.

Furthermore, he reiterated Midvaal’s dedication to ethical and effective governance, underpinned by accountability, transparency, and responsiveness.

“While the municipality remains committed to delivering quality services, strong partnerships with community stakeholders are essential to achieving lasting impact.”

A key focus of the engagement was the importance of bridging traditional, spiritual, and public health systems to improve overall community wellbeing.

The mayor acknowledged that health is influenced by social, cultural, and emotional factors, and that traditional practitioners and faith leaders are often the first point of contact for individuals in distress.

Through collaboration, the municipality aims to promote early intervention and preventative care, enhance community education and awareness, encourage responsible health-seeking behaviour, and build trust between residents and public institutions.

The mayor highlighted the importance of recognising and respecting indigenous knowledge systems as an integral part of development. He called for greater collaboration that honours cultural practices while ensuring community safety and wellbeing.

“At the heart of everything we do is one principle: people must come first. Not politics, not processes, but people.”

He encouraged continued dialogue and partnership beyond the session, urging all stakeholders to work together to build stronger, healthier, and more inclusive communities.

Highlighting the importance of unity and shared responsibility, Teixeira urged everyone present to work together to become a powerful, thriving nation, full of hope.

The engagement fostered a shared commitment to ongoing collaboration and open communication between the municipality and community leaders.
