Meyerton creative uses art and storytelling to preserve
Driven by a passion for creativity and meaningful experiences, Salamina Salsa Machitje founded Color Me In by SalaminaM, a business that turns special moments into personalized colouring books.
Salamina Salsa Machitje’s passion for creativity and storytelling has led her on a journey to share pieces of her world with her community and the wider world. Machitje’s company, Color Me In by SalaminaM, makes colouring books using photos of special moments. These books cover occasions like birthday parties, baby showers, and weddings.
Each is designed to feel modern, expressive, and inspiring. The concepts, illustrations, and themes used are intentional, with a strong focus on identity, creativity, and emotional connection through colouring. “Color Me In was inspired by creating meaningful experiences. I wanted something fun, nostalgic, and intentional. The goal is to encourage people to slow down, express themselves, and reconnect with creativity simply,” says Machitje.

The Meyerton resident says part of the inspiration came from her experience with corporate burnout. After years of working in high-pressure environments, Machitje realised how disconnected many people become.
“Creating these colouring books became a way for me to reconnect with myself, while also creating something that could offer that same feeling to others.”
Her love for photography and creating special moments propelled her to create something to preserve special moments. For Machitje, the books felt like the perfect mix of creativity, relaxation, and accessibility.
“Anyone can pick one up, regardless of age or artistic skill, and immediately feel connected to the experience. I also loved the idea of turning something traditionally simple, like photos, into something more memorable and thought-provoking.”
Machitje hopes that her books inspire people to create freely without pressure. “ I want the books to remind people that creativity doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful, and that moments of play, imagination, and self-expression are important.”

Speaking about the pressures she faced when she first established her business, Machitje states that managing a high volume of orders while operating the business on her own taught her that planning is a game-changer. However, Machitje encourages entrepreneurs to forge forward despite the challenges.
“Entrepreneurship creates opportunities for people to build independently, create income, and turn ideas into something tangible. For women and creatives, it’s empowering to realise that your creativity can become a business and create impact within your community. Start before you feel fully ready.”
Currently, Color Me In offers a broader creative brand, including personalised stationery labelling, custom book covers, stationery boxes, and lunch box stickers. The products are designed to make everyday school feel more personal, fun, and expressive.
