Midvaal Local Municipality has warmed the hearts of young people through the official opening of the multi-million-rand Lakeside Multipurpose Centre on June 16.

The state-of-the-art facility was unveiled during the municipality’s annual Mayoral Youth Games, which brought together hundreds of young people from communities across Midvaal in a celebration of sport, talent, and unity.

Midvaal’s Senior Media Officer Idah Satikhe says the new facility boasts a world-class astroturf field, tennis courts, modern ablution facilities, and a five-a-side football pitch, providing residents with access to quality sporting and recreational infrastructure.

“The Lakeside Multipurpose Centre, a project years in the making, forms part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to creating safe, accessible, and high-quality recreational spaces where young people can develop their talents and engage positively within their communities.”

The Mayoral Youth Games featured a variety of sporting codes, including soccer, netball, volleyball, chess, and indigenous games. The competition showcased the talent and competitive spirit of Midvaal’s youth while fostering social cohesion and community pride.

The facility was filled to capacity throughout the day, with young people from across the municipality participating in and supporting the various sporting activities.

Satikhe said the celebrations were further enhanced by performances from local young artists, who entertained attendees and showcased Midvaal’s vibrant creative talent.

Now in its fifth year, the Mayoral Youth Games has become a flagship youth development initiative in Midvaal, providing a platform for young athletes to compete, showcase their abilities, and pursue their sporting aspirations.
