Sasol for Good supports learners with goodies

Hundreds of learners across the Fezile Dabi District are receiving much-needed school shoes, winter uniforms and dignity packs through Sasol’s Sasol for Good Programme.

SASOLBURG – Sasol, through its Sasol for Good Programme, continues to make a meaningful contribution to education and community development by providing essential support to learners from underserved communities.

Recognising that many learners face barriers beyond the classroom, this initiative focuses on addressing basic needs that directly impact school attendance, participation, and overall wellbeing.

Through this programme, Sasol is distributing school shoes, winter uniforms, and dignity packs to learners from 13 schools across the Fezile Dabi District to support their educational journey
Education remains one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating opportunities for social and economic advancement.

However, learners in disadvantaged communities often lack access to essential items such as proper footwear, warm clothing, and personal care products, which are challenges that are further intensified during the winter season.

“Many learners walk long distances to school in cold conditions without adequate protection. This not only affects their health and comfort, but also their confidence and ability to focus in class,” said Ntokozo Gcabashe, Senior Vice President at Sasolburg and Natref Operations.

The initiative also addresses menstrual health challenges faced by learners.

Limited access to sanitary products continues to contribute to absenteeism and reduced participation in school activities.

The provision of dignity packs aims to improve access to menstrual hygiene products, helping to ensure that young girls can attend school with confidence and dignity.

“Our goal is to remove some of the barriers that prevent learners from fully participating in their education. By providing these essential items, we are creating an enabling environment where learners can focus on learning and achieving their full potential,” added Ntokozo.

In addition to material support, the initiative promotes dignity, inclusion, and equal access to education.
By ensuring that learners are properly equipped, Sasol is helping to improve school attendance, boost learner confidence, and strengthen educational outcomes.

This initiative also reflects the power of collective giving. Contributions from Sasol and Natref employees, including generous donations of school shoes from the Junior Engineers Forum colleagues, have played a key role in extending the reach and impact of the programme.

“Sasol for Good is a demonstration of what can be achieved when we work together to support our communities. Through employee volunteerism and giving, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of young people,” said Patience Makhubela, Senior Manager Human Resources at Sasolburg and Natref Operations.

Ultimately, this programme is an investment in the future of learners and the broader community. By addressing barriers to education and promoting dignity, Sasol is contributing towards building resilient communities and empowering the next generation.
